This tour covers the magnificent area of Dutch polder landscape north of Amsterdam, marked by windmills, lakes, dikes and ditches.
You will experience Dutch heritage with visits at a former VOC village De Rijp and the Zaanse Schans, an old windmill area with a wooden shoe factory and a cheese farm.
We continue to Volendam and make a boatride to Marken, fishermen's village along the former Zuiderzee. Marken used to be an island until it was connected to the mainland by a dam. Some people of both places still wear the traditional costumes.
You will travel along small scenic countryroads, where tourbusses are not allowed. The area is called 'Waterland' and is situated 8-12 feet below sealevel.
